The High Line Park is a recreation area in New York City in the old Meatpacker District. Originally it was an elevated railroad used to transport goods between the factories in that area. It was elevated due to a significant amount of accidents on the street level. With the growth of interstate trucking the need for the railroad declined and the service in the end got stopped.In 1999 a private non-profit organization started to repurpose the highline which was then opened in 3 pashes between 2009 and 2014.
